A well-prepared submission is reviewed faster and creates a better first impression. Use this checklist before you send your manuscript to any publisher.

The manuscript

  • Complete draft in a single Word (.docx) file, not scattered chapters.
  • Consistent headings, numbering and fonts.
  • Pages numbered, with a table of contents.
  • References in one consistent style.
  • Spelling and grammar checked, in Hindi or English as applicable.

Front and back matter

  • Title page with the final title, subtitle and author names.
  • Preface or foreword, if any.
  • Acknowledgements and a short dedication.
  • An index or glossary for reference books.
  • A short author biography (about 100 words).

Images, tables and figures

  • Images supplied as separate high-resolution files, with captions.
  • Written permission for anything not created by you.
  • Tables as editable text, not pictures.

Originality

  • Plagiarism report attached.
  • Statement that the work is original and free of copyright conflicts.

Your cover note

Write a short email with the book title, subject, number of pages or words, the intended readers, and a one-paragraph summary. Mention any courses, exams or syllabuses the book supports. Add your qualifications and contact details.

What happens next

The publisher reviews the manuscript, may suggest changes, and then explains the publishing options and terms. Ask for these in writing before you commit.

Keep a backup of every file you send, and keep your own copy of the final approved version.
